<p style=”text-align: left;”>C/2023 A3 looking nearly stellar in my cell phone shot through my grab and go setup on 2024-10-27 at 7:56pm from south on Canon Falls.  Visually, I could see quite a bit of tail but the phone didn’t seem to pick it up.</p>

Here is what little view Dustin and I managed from Salem Glen.  From 6:00 to 6:20 the clouds parted but by 7:00 they were thick again.  We waited for several holes in the clouds to blow over with the best views coming at 7:43.  The tail was visually noted before taking the photos with my phone to confirm.  We never did see Venus.

Weather looking a bit sketchy, but I am headed to Salem Glen regardless.

Here are the details for Salem Glen viewing of C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS tonight.  We can park on the grass field near the hill so we don’t have to carry gear all the way from the parking lot.  We can set up any time after 5:00pm.  The winery closes at 5:00pm so arrive earlier if you wish to enjoy their wares.  We will pack up by 9:00pm.

The address is 5211 60th Ave SW, Rochester, MN 55902.

The forecast is for clouds to break up a bit around 6:00 and it will be windy.

This was a much more gratifying view of comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS!  The clouds parted for an unobstructed view and it dewed up and clouded up once the comet set.

I will be at Root River as well.  Headed there now to work on clearing the clouds.

Who is up for chasing down comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS on Saturday?  We still have an open invitation to Salem Glen on Sunday, but weather is looking a bit sketchy.  I would like to take every opportunity to see it and hopefully get a better view than in the attached images from the morning of October 2.  It was not visible naked eye or in binoculars.

I still plan to go somewhere. Do we need permission to use Root River?

I am going to try to get down there and set up the Lunt for a while.  I'll have my daughter along, so probably depart as temps drop at dusk.

Anyone planning on being there early enough for solar observing?
