Hello all! Just seeing if there is any interest in collaborating with the 2025 Astronomical League observing challenge?

      From the Astronomical League:

The Observing Program Division of the Astronomical League is excited to offer a slightly different Special Observing Challenge for 2025.  Details are contained on the attached flyer and all the details are on the web page (Challenge #12):

NASA Observing Challenges and Special Awards

      The basics:

Hubble has been taking some amazing images of Messier and Caldwell objects.
You do NOT need to be a member of the Astronomical League to participate.
The challenge  has 12 silver levels, one for each month in 2024, and an overall gold level.
There are certificates each month and for the gold level.  There is also a pin at the gold level.

You need to plan ahead each month for the Gold level to earn it at the end…
      Silver:
Each month observe at least one of the objects on the list (visually or imaging).
      Compare with the Hubble image.

Do at east one outreach activity for the year.
      Gold:
Each month observe at least four of the objects on the list (visually or imaging).
      Compare with the Hubble image.

Do at east four outreach activities for the year.

Great idea. We should include some featured objects into our public events, for example M42 (Orion Nebula) or C14 (Double cluster).
Hubble imaged 87 of the 110 objects in the Charles Messier catalog and 89 of the 109 objects in the Caldwell catalog. So there is 87+89 = 176 potential objects to observe and compare with the Hubble images.
