I was given a Meade DS 2114ATS.
I believe it is what you call a Jones Bird telescope as it has a 2x Barlow mounted in the focuser. Any ways, the go to mount operates, but I haven’t been able to get it to actually point to the object . Also when observing Saturn I was disappointed with the view, blurry and shaky. My personal thoughts on this telescope are that it is a hobby killer, and I think if I gave it to someone it would turn them away from the hobby instead of inspiring them.
Looking for your thoughts and or advice, suggestions.
Thank you.

October 30, 2024 at 5:50 pm #15195Hi Colin, If the telescope hasn’t been collimated (mirrors aligned), then doing that may vastly improve the image. We can take a look at it and perform the collimation for free if you wish. Let me know.
Thanks,Randy Hemann

October 31, 2024 at 12:43 pm #15198I can bring my laser collimator to the meeting (it is an inexpensive one, $21 on Amazon) that works well with my 6 inch f/4 scope. Might try it and if it also works with Colin’s scope he can get one for himself. With reflectors, it’s a good idea to check collimation every time you observe.
