Dean Johnson reports that the StarBQ will NOT occur this weekend.  We'll be looking into October to see if we can still pull it off!

Is Eagle Bluff open this weekend for observing?  Sounds like some people are looking to get out.

Randy, maybe you could send out an email on the list, and get this news on the front page and calendar, or some people might come and be disappointed.

Randy is going to contact Eagle Bluff today about availability this weekend.  He will post here later today.

Called Eagle Bluff. They are open both nights and will have the lights off by 9 PM. Tonight's weather, although breezy, is looking better than tomorrow night. I'll be back in town later today, so I am not certain I can make it, but possibly be there.

Anyone thinking of heading out the Eagle Bluff?  Been a long week, not sure if I will or not.  But would be nice to get out, been awhile.

Randy – Did you perchance get a door code?

                      Hello everyone,
I just joined and wanted to come out tonight and introduce myself. Is anyone going out to Keller or is just out at Eagle Buff?

                        Hi Jordon,
Welcome!  Hope we get a chance to meet you.  Sounds like people are going to Eagle Bluff.

I will be coming up from Decorah. I've been to Eagle Bluff before, but not in a while. Will I be able to find the group who is observing? I'd hate to drive up and not meet anyone. Is there a particular location where people park and where they set up their telescopes?

We always set up in the upper parking lot above the main campus.  Dim lights when you get to EB's main entrance sign.  Scopes and parking are both in the parking lot on the left before the guardhouse.  You can get into the parking lot at either right away  just past the sign or down by the guardhouse.

Josef, Jeff, and I had a very nice night at EB last night. Jordon was there too, but had to go by the time I arrived. The sky was very clear, with a few clouds low to the horizon to the north and later the west.

I am a very new observer and so I focused on Messiers that I could find in my homemade 8 inch dob. Last night I saw for the first time M30, M2, M72, M73, M76, M27, and old favorites M29, M39, M52, M103, M13, M57, M45. Jeff's 12 inch dob provided much bigger views of some of these and many others including M11 and M31/32/110.

The absolute highlight of the night for me was seeing Uranus for the first time ever. Josef had punched it up on the club's goto scope and I used his laser pointer and Stellarium on my phone to eventually track it down with my dob, and then binoculars, and even the faintest hint with naked eye averted vision.

Thanks to all in the club for my best night ever of observing! I am looking forward to meeting more of you at future events.

That Veil Neb pic is awesome!  Was that a stack of several images or one long exposure?
