Jeff Newland started the topic May 8-10 observing? in the forum Star Parties 1 hour ago

Anyone thinking of going out anywhere observing this weekend?  It looks like it will be clear most every night, at least right now anyway according to the clear sky chart.  The moon doesn’t rise until well after midnight, so I’ll be home by then. 🙂

Sounds good to me, I’ll plan to be there.  It is time we have a Dean Johnson Memorial Messier Marathon.

I plan to head out there and I think Duane will be there as well, at least he was planning on coming out a couple of days ago.

Duane, were you still going to Root River tonight, Wednesday?  I was thinking of heading out there.

I don’t know where to go, but would perhaps be interested in Friday as well.

Upon further review, looks like they are toast.  If they took your money, you may be out of luck.

Wow, hard for me to believe, but they might be going out of business.

You can do a google search and find other references.

I see there is an Eagle Bluff outing listed in the calendar for Friday.  Is that a go?  Has Eagle Bluff been contacted?

Hi Ken, has anyone contacted you?  If you get a hold of Randy, he did have a bunch of glasses that he would gladly donate to you.

Eagle Bluff right now is a go for Saturday night.  John got word from Eagle Bluff and they said it was OK.  Anyone interested, come on out on Saturday.

Is Eagle Bluff available this weekend?  It looks like Saturday (Friday?) may be a great time to go there and do a Messier Marathon.  If not a marathon, time to get together for some observing.

Yes, the forecasts are saying it will start to cloud up by 9:00, so looks like no Messier Marathon.

Bob, yes, that was the northern lights.  They were pretty good.  They mentioned it on the 10:00 news last night and all they today they have been showing photos that people took last night.

It looks like it just might be nice on Friday.  Is Eagle Bluff available?  Anyone interested in a Messier Marathon?  There will be a bit of moon out there.  It’ll probably hide some of the early western objects.

So what’s everyone think?  Not as clear as I thought it was going to be.

If we don’t hear anything about Eagle Bluff, I’ll probably head to Keller.  Unless some can turn the light off at Root River?

Jim, Saturday may be better.  Looking at the Clear Sky Chart and hourly forecasts, they are showing Saturday as clearer than Friday.

Is Eagle Bluff available this weekend?  Anyone thinking of going out observing?  It looks like it may be the last good day until next year… maybe.  Friday looks pretty good.  Saturday may be starting to cloud up a bit more, but looks to be warmer.

Colin, it would be a great eyepiece, but it is not small.  You may need to put some wait on the back to balance the scope.

Yeah, doesn’t look that good out there.  I guess I’ll skip tonight as well.   🙁

I’ll be heading out to Root River tonight.  Sunset is a little before 8:45.  There will be an ISS pass around 10:35.
