Not sure why. the images I posted recently look so poor on the website. I’ll post a tiff file version and see what happens.

        Tif file was too large.

Observing and doing some astrophotography 10/8 from my observatory. Skies were dark and clear but humidity high. Tried my hand for first time photographing nebulae. M 27 (Dumbell) was a good starting point for me and it is well placed in the sky these nights. Used my right angle finder scope (50mm dia.) with removable eyepiece and put in the Orion 6.3Mpixel camera in place of the eyepiece. I kept exposures short (20 seconds typically) as I am still not savvy with the PHD guiding app and setup. Anyway I did get some interesting photos one of which is below. While grainy, small and a bit noisy and stars slightly out of round the 20 second image of Dumbell amazed me at least with its ability to capture the different colors of the nebula and stars. (Will need to talk to Mike C concerning the problem I have with guiding).

Thanks Darkskyjim! Below is a Jupiter photo from 10-30-2021 taken with a 10 in. SCT and the 6.3 M pixel color camera. Staking of 150 frames with Registax6.

Thanks darkskyjim (should I just say Jim!? ) .  Our web page highlights the Nov 7th Frontenac State Park event and the images of that are awesome.  Sadly, I had to stay in Rochester where the sky and seeing was excellent but not like the skies over Frontenac.  Wow!

Later (about 2am), I did wake, got to my observatory and as the skies were still clear took my first pic of the Orion nebula (below) using a 20 second exposure with the Orion 6.3 Mpixel camera and 60 mm Orion guide scope.

Whoops!  The Frontenac SP event noted above was on Nov 6th and not the 7th!

Jim is fine. I saw some of the meeting last night and it was inspiring to see what you and everyone have been observing!
I definitely need to get out more but will probably have to wait until next spring 🙁 clear skies!

Having a recent Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image of a planet you have photographed really helps one recognize subtle structures visible in one’s blurry pics.  In the attached image the Hubble image is part of yearly maps of each planet taken as part of the Outer Planets Atmospheres Legacy program, or OPAL.  Check out Hubble’s recent photos, video and commentary on this website: https://hubblesite.org/contents/news-releases/2021/news-2021-047?news=true

Wow! Did anyone get a photo of comet Leonard and M3 ? (See https://spaceweathergallery.com/indiv_upload.php?upload_id=180044).  Hopefully we’ll have a nice binocular and small telescope view over the next month or two.

There was talk about observing at Eagle Bluff this weekend, but alas, looks like we’ll be thwarted by the weather once more.  Someday…
