I'm considering root river too, but I have full day of yard work ahead of me. I might end up just setting up out here in Oronoco.
May 25, 2019 at 9:04 pm #12423Looks like heading to Root River Park tonight. John M says he will be there. Guess we'll see how it works out. 🙂
May 26, 2019 at 10:07 pm #12424How was Root River Park Jeff. Did you have to call the Park manager to be there after hours? I went to Keller and was alone for an hour before high clouds interfered with viewing. Did spend another 3 hours at home and got a bit hazy views of many objects. My absolute favorite was M 57 the Ring Nebula.
May 27, 2019 at 1:07 am #12425Bob, it was pretty nice down there. You should have headed there instead of Keller. I was there with my wife and John and Luka were also there. John had left a message with the park manager saying we may be there over the weekend. There clouds off and on while we were out there. We set up in the grass south of the parking lot.
May 31, 2019 at 3:52 pm #12426Any thoughts of a replay this weekend? Root River or Keller or even Eagle Bluff?
May 31, 2019 at 5:32 pm #12427Hello Mr. Gorp, the Gorpster.. Where were you last weekend? 🙂 Anyway…
Today doesn't look good, but tomorrow is looking perhaps clear Saturday night.. except probably for some smoke?
Give the word and I'll sure think about coming out. Not sure if I want to head all the way to Eagle Bluff, but either of the others will do.
And, if Eagle Bluff is open and others heading that way.. then would probably head that way.Jeff
May 31, 2019 at 8:28 pm #12428Hi Jeff. Sorry missed you and the others at Root River Park. Wasn't sure someone had contacted the park manager or not. Anyway how was the view and the dark skies say … compared to Keller and Eagle Bluff? Would be up for any of the 3 sites if Saturday night weather cooperates.
BobJune 1, 2019 at 1:14 pm #12429I?d be available for viewing tonight, just let me know where.
June 1, 2019 at 9:46 pm #12430So what's everyone thinking? Hazy as it is out there, don't think would want to go all the way to Eagle Bluff. Go somewhere close by, Root River Park?
Anyone go there, forgot to mention earlier, there are a lot of pot holes on the road in. Some pretty big. The driveway in is gravel, but only a half mile or so, probably less? But again, a lot of pot holes.Bob, in reply to you. Seems darker than Keller. Nice thing is there is no traffic going by, so that helps. We set up south of the parking lot in the grass. There are some small trees at the end of the parking lot. But.. it when I went into the parking lot, it seemed to be lit up quite a bit by the Rochester glow. Definite light dome to the NW from Roch.
June 1, 2019 at 11:38 pm #12431Hi Jeff and thanks for the comments on Root River Park. I will go there tonight with my smaller scope and binoculars. Do you know if John M has notified the park we'll likely be there this weekend? I think Nick W can go as well. Yeah the smoke from fires will be a problem but hey otherwise should be a great sky!
BobJune 1, 2019 at 11:59 pm #12432That's right, not sure if John had mentioned we would be using Root River or not. I think we could still use it.
June 2, 2019 at 1:06 am #12433Bob, I'll see you out at Root River Park then. Anyone else, looks like we're heading out there. See y'all there.
July 7, 2019 at 1:01 am #12434Even though we?re getting close to First Quarter Moon, thinking about going out to Keller just to get a little telescope time in…
July 7, 2019 at 4:22 pm #12435AstroMom! How was Keller? For a while skies were OK although humidity was high. Jupiter was nice with the GRS in view (an image from last night taken with my 10 inch telescope and 5 MP Orion camera is attached). Clouds moved in for half of my video and the seeing was fair so the image is not that great :-[
The GRS is really quite red these days!July 12, 2019 at 6:16 pm #12436Last night (7/11-12) had good seeing and clear skies. I took a video of Jupiter and used a combination of Autostakker 2 and Registax 6 to process the images. Flipped the image to approximate what you can see in Stellarium. Io (closest to Jupiter) and Europa are the moons in the image. Taken with 10 inch SCT.
