Hi Colin, If the telescope hasn’t been collimated (mirrors aligned), then doing that may vastly improve the image. We can take a look at it and perform the collimation for free if you wish. Let me know.
Thanks,Randy Hemann

I think any of the <$20 options on Amazon are decent options. I’ve been ordering more of the rechargeable types. So far they seem to work OK.
For example:
Hi Colin,
You are correct. Orion’s website went dark July 31 and they along with Meade (who is another major astronomy equipment vendor being acquired by Orion) is gone too. Very unexpected and surprising since Orion has been perhaps the major supplier for amateur astronomers for decades.
If you have money sent for your purchase, I would contact your bank or credit card company and cancel the payment.
Orion apparently has had a large manufacturing plant in Mexico which must have shut down also. Who knows what company if any will acquire their assets. Celestron, and perhaps Explore Scientific are now the big players in this market.
Hope this helps. Let us know if hear anything else because I’m sure you’re not alone!

John Martin will attend. Hotdish.
Mike Carlin will attend.
Michael Currie will attend.
The event is still a “go”. I’ll be at Mystery Cave from 3-6. (I have an indoor presentation ready if cloudy).
The evening event is on from 8-10:30 in the Forestville parking lot just before you get to the historic bridge. I’ll be over there around 7pm. Be sure to stop at the park office on the way in and say you’re a volunteer and they will give you a free pass.
Come if you want. Not sure the skies will cooperate very well!
See details of the Forestville Dark Sky Festival in the outreach folder on the forum. Looks like they plan on holding as many events as possible with or without clear skies. Saturday evening’s forecast for the deep sky viewing is looking better. The solar viewing forecast from 3-6 pm at the Mystery Cave site is still questionable.
Just talked to Dean. Looks like no Eagle Bluff tonight. So local viewing or Root River/Keller.
Yes, local viewing only tonight. Too much haze!
