Will there be any clear skies Friday or Saturday for an Eagle Bluff warm up for the next weekends StarBQ?

Dean, anything happening at Eagle Bluff this weekend?

To all those that I have had the privilege of stargazing with, I regret to inform you that I will be moving back to Holland, Michigan on the 3rd of September :'(
My family and I have enjoyed living back here in my home state, but my wife has been utterly miserable working at Mayo (I prefer to call them the borg collective), and I have been unable to find a full time job.  My wife took a job with a hospital in Grand Rapids, MI,(her home state) and I hope to get my old job back at Holland Hospital.  Our kids will be returning to the same school that they were in before we moved here in 2012, so not too much of an adjustment for them.
I was hoping to make it out to the Flatin Farm for the big bbque, but I will be up in the cities for a "farewell" bbque with my extended family.
My thanks to all of you that answered my countless questions as I embarked on this awesome hobby just 2 years ago, especially Jeff, Dean and Randy.  It has truly been a pleasure
I will check in from time to time on this site and see how you are all fairing(a parting little clear sky pun :D).
        I wish you many AGNFA!
        Bernie
p.s. my new email address(as of 9/4) will be sbengels@frontier.net

Hi Bernie, sorry to see you leave, but sounds like for the best.  I hope you got room to pack up all of the astronomy stuff you have now.    πŸ˜‰

The StarBQ is a 2 night affair (with luck), so perhaps you could hit one of the nights.  πŸ™‚

Best of luck, clear skies to you, and also many AGNFA!

          Jeff

Yes, bittersweet so long Bernie.  I hope all goes well back home and things settle down.  It's been great to help out and we all enjoyed your company and enthusiasm.  Feel free to look us up if for any reason you're back down in these parts. You know where we stargaze!

            Randy

And for the rest, I'll be out of town this weekend but will be gearing up for the 2014 SBQ.

Anyone up for perhaps Keller tonight if there are no clouds?  Be quite humid out there and perhaps fog later, but I'm sure we need a little practice run for the StarBQ next weekend.  πŸ™‚

Best of luck to you, Bernie, sorry to see such an eager observer go.

Eagle Bluff is unavailable tonight, but Dawn says Saturday night that the parking lot will be at our disposal. The humidity will be an issue, so Vidal will be in the parking lot.

The long range forecast for the 7th Annual Star BQ looks good, we have some clear dry cooler air from Canada supposed to be moving in. The oats are out at the Flatin Farm and we'll have lots of room this year.

Keep Steve Remick in your thoughts and prayers. He does indeed have a brain tumor.

I'm planning to head to Keller tonight.  Hopefully others can head out there.  No telling what things will be like tomorrow night or .. what it will be like tonight for that matter.  πŸ™‚  If you all can't make Eagle Bluff tomorrow or the StarBQ next weekend, head on out tonight.

Sorry to hear that about Steve.  He will be in my thoughts and prayers.

                    See you all there.

Love the Z Design, has good support for the side — good thinking.

How are the smaller ovals positioned?  They look like they would be great handles.

How are you going to finish?  Jet Black or a stain to being out the wood tones?

Now for a few good days this weekend to put it to good use.

thanks! yes, the small ovals (or the big really) will be handles. (its also 10 lbs
lighter than the original). he will spray 3 coats of lacquer and it will bring out
the wood grain–his is beautiful! he posted some pics in Cloudy Nights in the
"reflector" section under the "mega mods Z12" thread. i just hope he has it
                        finished in time…

Ordered a new Alt-Az mount/tripod, the Vixen Porta II, and bought a Rigel Quick Finder.  It's technically a reflex finder, not a red dot, so hopefully you'll still talk to me, Dean.  πŸ™‚  Looking forward to this weekend so I can try this new stuff out!

Wishing you the best, Steve.  My prayers are with you.

I'll always talk to you, Dave. All this new equipment sounds wonderful and I can't wait to see it.

Thanks for the thoughts on Steve, he's in for a tough fight.

I know it's late, but we're heading out to Keller. before the next batch of clouds roll in.

Steve and I got out to the Flatin Farm headlands. The sky was good from 9 to 10 p.m., then the clouds rolled in. We played "pocket astronomy" for another hour and then it completely covered up.

It was wonderful to spend time with Steve. He is going to go through treatment, wish him the best.

The 7th Annual Star BQ isn't done yet. October can still be a good month. This has been a very cloudy year.

Observing at Keller was mixed. If you waited for the occasional cloud to pass, they would at times disappear before they sailed across the sky. Really interesting. We could have used Vidial!

AstroMom spent most of the time in the neighborhood of Cassiopeia. We discovered that her binoculars (Nikon Pro-Action Extreme 10×50) were much better than mine.

It was a good night for astronomy — once you made it across the lake at the entrance to Keller  ;D
