August 28, 2019 at 11:45 pm #12483Sky looks great, I will be there
August 30, 2019 at 12:33 am #12484Forecast at this moment looks better Saturday night but I think we may have to make the call on the day of.
August 30, 2019 at 10:19 pm #12485Hope you had a great night at Root River Park John and Josef! I decided to stay home (good skies at my place too) and learn to use my setting circles on my old 8 in scope that I bring to outreach. I got the dec circle OK but still struggling with the R.A. circle. (my clock drive doesn't work on this scope). Also used the 10 inch to see M 30, M 72, M 73, M 27 (Dumbell), M 31, 32 and 110 (Andromeda), M 57 (Ring), M 56 and M 75 (many of those globular clusters.)
August 31, 2019 at 4:42 pm #12486I had a great night at Root River and I'll report on the cool things we saw at the next club meeting. So far, I've got 38 Messier objects recorded for the Astro League certificate and I would sure like to get three more that are quite difficult ones (in lower Sagittarius) before they move farther west for the season. I was hoping to go back out there tonight (31 Aug 19) but the clouds that are blowing in from the weather system originating in the Western Dakotas are going to prevent that. Maybe tomorrow night. If I go, I'll post something on this forum.
September 3, 2019 at 10:12 pm #12487I think this is going to be the last chance of season to map M54, M55, M69, and M70 (all in southern Sagittarius). The moon is starting to stay out too late and Sagittarius will be too far in the west by the time dark skies return in a month. I'm going out to Root River tonight.
September 3, 2019 at 11:51 pm #12488Looks like the clouds are not going to dissipate tonight. I'll have to wait till next year to get those faint fuzzys in Sagittarius.
Did anyone notice that the clock on the Forum is an hour fast?
September 19, 2019 at 7:39 pm #12489Thanks, John. I missed the server time offset. It should be correct now.
October 17, 2019 at 10:48 pm #12490Eagle Bluff is available this Friday and Saturday. Dean and I were thinking about going. Friday night moonrise is 9:30, Saturday is 10:20. Looks like decent weather for observing if anyone wants to get out.
October 18, 2019 at 12:17 am #12491Eagle Bluff sounds good. Let us know if you end up going. Seems like they were talking about rain Friday night into Saturday morning. If that is true, Saturday would probably be a better bet.
October 18, 2019 at 3:03 am #12492Agree, interested to go, currently Saturday night looking better.
RandyOctober 18, 2019 at 3:08 pm #12493It sort of looks like both evenings may be clear. The rain/clouds will come after midnight tonight, maybe.
October 18, 2019 at 3:11 pm #12494Tomorrow night seems better moon-wise and maybe less windy. I?ll talk to Dean later today.
October 18, 2019 at 8:07 pm #12495Yes, I would like tomorrow, Saturday, night for Eagle Bluff. Tonight would probably prefer closer to home if I go out.
October 18, 2019 at 8:40 pm #12496Just talked to Dean about Eagle Bluff again. It looks like tonight is a nogo. Tomorrow (Saturday) is a go! Less moon, less wind.
