Sorry I missed it. I had to choose a night for family and a day for astronomy and I picked the one that looked the clearest for astronomy. I hope I was right. Here’s what it looks like so far:

      Clear Sky Clock

Will Eagle Bluff still be an option or should I head to Root River?

I’m glad you had a great night. I stepped outside a few times last night and it looked pretty nice!

Oops, just noticed that you asked about location. We’re heading to EB.

I should have looked before I left. We do church on Saturdays so I was in a rush the whole day to get out and I headed to Root River. I’m here and just about set up. But, I got such a late start… I wouldn’t be there for another 40 minutes. 🙁

have a great night there and in a way we’re all looking at the same sky! 🙂

Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS from the access road to the Root River park at 6:01 CDT. Comet was not visible in binocular, but there is a tiny spot on this and more images. Moon crescent about 1d10h before New Moon. Bonus is asteroid Vesta with magnitude 8.1.

Nice work, Yoseph. Keep them coming. I can’t wait to see what happens this month.

Eagle Bluff just confirmed that the parking lot is available tonight and tomorrow night for observing and the lights will be off. Wish I could be there, but I’m in Staples watching grandkids…

Awesome! Anybody else out there planning to go?

if I’m on my own, I may head to root river. It’s so much closer. But if others are planning to go I would be happy to join.

I am thinking about Root River Park tonight, I hope I’ll make it.

I’m hoping to make it too. My son had a seizure today and I’m in the ER right now waiting for tests to be done.

At Okie-Tex this week Randy, Jerome and myself enjoyed the clear dark skies and views of galaxies (especially M77 in Cetus) and small planetary nebulae.
Last night back in Rochester I imaged M77 and noticed an edge on galaxy (which turned out to be NGC 1055). These are the two largest galaxies in their neighborhood approximately 50-60 million light-years distant.
In the image below M77 is on the left and NGC 1055 on the right.

I just went outside, put on my eclipse glasses and saw a big sunspot. It’s almost in the middle of the disk.
