Picture this: Thousands of Minnesotans at sites across the state observing the Moon and engaging in hands-on astronomy activities all at the same time. The Bell Museum invites you to participate in Minnesota’s first Statewide Star Party during the weekend of Friday, November 8 through Monday, November 11. The Rochester Astronomy Club is hosting the area Star Party as part of this celebration
Apollo 11 landed on the Moon 50 years ago, and we are going to commemorate this event by observing Apollo 11 landing site on the Moon in the smooth terrain of the Sea of Tranquility, close to crater Theophilus(next to Cyrillus). Moon is rising at 4 PM and transits at 10:12 PM, so we should be able to see Moon with all Apollo landing sites, and we can observe other wonders of the sky as well.
Program:
- Presentation about Apollo 11
- Observing of the 12.4 days old Moon, two days before Full Moon, 94% already illuminated, planets Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, bright stars, double stars, and more by telescope with guidance members of the Rochester Astronomy Club.
