I thought I'd start a thread topic for good deals out there…

If anybody has thought about getting Starry Night, or an Orion green laser, here's a pretty good deal:

      http://www.starrynightstore.com/freepointer.html

The club isn't going to get those lasers we discussed at the meeting recently, as we've found them to not work that great for astronomy (they don't hold up to even the slightest of cold temperatures).

If anyone wants an Orion scope, or other Orion products, they have free shipping until the 15th for orders over $250.

        http://www.telescope.com/control/main;jsessionid=13411E2749E393CEC4F45C91D3035CD0.ivprod2

A word of warning though, that is free regular shipping.  Orion has a regular shipping charge and then they also have an another shipping charge for heavy or over-sized products.  For this promotion, no regular shipping charge, but they still have the over-sized shipping charge, which means there is still a charge of some kind for many of the scopes.
Anyway, in case anyone was thinking Orion for something, now might be a good time.

Oh, also, they usually have a deal of the day on their front page.  You can check that out everyday to see if something strikes your fancy.  Today, the StarShoot Solar System Color Imager II.

Dean,  deal of the day on Orion is those big binoculars you talked about in another thread, the Orion BT70 Premium Binocular Telescope, 23% off.  http://www.telescope.com

The deal will probably last until sometime tomorrow.  Now is the time.  😀

If anyone has thought of getting a nice 130mm refractor at a decent price, Astronomics in Oklahoma City now has the TMB 130 signature series in stock after quite a lengthy (~1 year) delay.  This was one of S&T's Hot Products of 2007, and they are available again as of a day or two ago, so I thought I'd mention it:

Be something different some time tomorrow.  They're $79 instead of 99.95, 21% off.

A lot of rebates out there.  Celestron has $200 rebate on CPC scopes until June 15.  Until July 31st, get $100 to $200 off on Celestron NexStar SE scopes.

Meade is shipping bonus equipment if you buy LX200-ACF or LX90-ACF scopes.

Orion has dropped the prices on their Classic Dobs, $40 to $70.  What a Classic dob, now would be the time.

Astronomics has a nice list of the rebates, etc. on their web page.  You can buy them anywhere they are for sale and get the rebates, but Astronomics has them listed:  http://www.astronomics.com/main/Telescopes_and_Telescope_Accessories.asp/catalog_name/Astronomics/category_name/Home

If anybody is considering a dob, I really like those Intelliscopes. There are a few in the club now and they are nice scopes. The only reason I didn't get one of these is because a 12" wouldn't fit in my car.

Intelliscope 12 inch Dob is the Deal of the Day at Orion, $850.  If you want one new, now would be the time.  Have about 24 hours to get it before a new deal of the day comes in.
Orion appears to be having some kind of a new Dob coming in, but they are not showing what it is yet.  That appears to be why they have lowered prices on their other dobs.

Orion has announced their new dob.  They call it the XX12.  It is a 12" truss tube dob.  Price is $1300 including the object locator.

And, you can just get it time for Christmas.  Expected ship date of 11/14/08.  It'll be a little while before they ship it, maybe.  Could also surpass expectations and ship early.  ;D

I hate to say it, but it looks heavier than the Meade?mainly that base. It does look nice though. My next scope will be pushing 18" and will still fit in my car  ::)

Based on the specs, they look about the same.  Maybe in a couple of years I'll have the funds to upgrade from my 8" dob.

Your right, or at least closer than I thought. The Orion 12" is 86.5 lbs, the Meade is 80 lbs.

I'm still a bit peeved about a couple things on my lightbridge that Meade has since fixed. Those of us who bought early suffer. I already upgraded the springs and bottom knobs, but one thing that irks me is where they put the jack for the fan batteries. It's right next to one of the collimation knobs. So close that in certain positions (lately, when it's well collimated) the knob blocks the jack and I can't plug in the batteries without de-collimating the mirror. One of these days I'll fix that.
