Macastronomer started the topic It was a Glorious Night for Astronomy! in the forum Star Parties 1 year, 8 months ago

Saturday June 8th truly was a great night to look up at the heavens. I bagged a few of the Herschel 400 and took some wonderful images of the sky and the Root River sun and moonset. We even saw a strange effect in the sky at 10:45.

Looking forward to the next clear sky night!

Macastronomer started the topic Anybody wanting to buy an iOptron Mount? in the forum General Discussion 1 year, 9 months ago

I know this is a long shot, but if anybody is looking at buying an iOptron mount, or more specifically if 4 other people are looking to buy an iOptron mount, we could get a 10% rebate if we buy them at the same time.

They make mounts in all sizes, including very small ones for just putting your camera on. If anybody is interested, let me know.…[Read more]

But not the typical kind of storm. This is a solar storm!
4 large incoming solar bursts could supercharge our star party with aurora.

Macastronomer replied to the topic Attending Eagle Bluff, May 10th 2024? in the forum Star Parties 1 year, 9 months ago

    One patch of clouds.
There is one patch of clouds at about midnight that will take about an hour to pass according to predictive weather.

Saturday looks better for seeing and clouds, but with mom’s day I wouldn’t be able to do Saturday.

Will somebody be there to turn off the parking lot lights tonight?

I see there is an Eagle Bluff outing listed in the calendar for Friday.  Is that a go?  Has Eagle Bluff been contacted?

5 min intervals throughout eclipseApril 8th 2024 from Southern Illinois. 29 images, each was 4-6 images stacked. All but the total used a neutral density filter. Taken with a Canon R50.

Thanks Jim. As I did in 2017, I compared my Starblast images with orbiting observatory photos (the Solar Dynamic Observatory or SDO in particular) to have a comparison for sunspots and solar flares present on April 8. Blink comparative images are shown below.

I would certainly enjoy seeing observations of other members too!

Many of us were in the eclipse pathway through NE Arkansas and SE Missouri where the clouds were parted providing a great view. I had my Starblast 4.5 reflector and cell phone setup and one totality picture is below. Also got an binocular view of comet 12P the night before the eclipse.
