To all the RAC members at Eagle Bluff last night,  thanks so much for putting up with me at your star party.  I had a great time with many of you and enjoyed some beautiful views of many of the Messier objects.  I do plan to visit again if I am able and I look forward to doing that. Keep up the good work and hope to see you soon.

We (Mike Carlin and myself) are planning public telescope observing of the Moon and planets Mars and Saturn this Saturday September 10 from 8 PM at Peace Plaza. We will have to figure out exact location to mitigate tall buildings around. Moon will be after the first quarter phase, weather  forecast looks good. Anyone is welcome to join us.

Josef, Mike and I set up on the Peace Plaza at 8PM Saturday night.  Despite wispy cloud cover and the obvious light issues downtown, the views of the Moon were fun viewing for the passersby.  Many had never looked through a telescope and were astonished at seeing "all the holes" in the Moon. Because we only had a sliver of the sky to work with before buildings interceded, it was all over by 10 pm.  Good fun all around.

Public Moon observing at Peace Plaza with Mike and Jack was fun, including talking to so many foreigners.
On the other hand, there are places in city borders with darker sky, less bright lights and lower horizon, like River West Park https://goo.gl/maps/FrTuJsjNz3K2 and others. Maybe next time...

Since the 2016 StarBBQ is going to be on Saturday, is anyone interested in going to Keller on Friday Night as a warm up? Or possibly Eagle Bluff (if we can get the lights off)?

A Friday warm up sounds like a good idea.
Weather pending. :-)

Conditions are looking very favorable for this Friday & Saturday nights (10/21 & 10/22).  Better than the long range forecast for the following weekend.  Anyone have any plans?  Might Eagle Bluff be available?

Dean called me and said Eagle Bluff is open to us this Saturday, the 22nd; but not Friday nite.  He is planning on being there. Supposed to be clear with a low in the 40's, moonrise at 10:45.

Most of the evening should be good for the Orionids meteor shower!

I'll be there. Sky predictions look good.
Should be some left over Orionids to view too!

Barring any chance to go to Eagle Bluff, I plan to be at Keller Saturday night.
