Any good places for stargazing near Rochester
« on: October 19, 2015, 03:42:49 PM »
Hello,

I joined the Rochester Astronomy Club some days ago. Thanks for having me here!

I am an amateur astronomy enthusiast. I wondered, where do you guys go for star gazing?

I go to Cherry Grove observatory but it is very far away from the city. Are there any good spots near the city?

Please let me know.

Thanks,
Tejesh  :)

Welcome Tejesh, glad you could join up with us.  If you go to the main web page for the club and click on the Star Parties, that will list a couple of places.  Our main dark sky weekend place is at Eagle Bluff.  That is about as far as Cherry Grove and that is usually only on dark sky weekends.  The other place listed there is Keller Wildlife Management Area.  That is SW of Rochester.  Not the best, but not the worst place.  If you watch the Observing Tonight? thread, generally if someone is heading out, they will post there.  Hope to see you at one of those places or at the next meeting.

Jeff
